Mercedes "Cedes" Elaine Hamilton
Twenty-three ¦ Human ¦
Birthday:
August 7, 1989
Occupation:
Part time waitress at the local dinner/College Sophomore
Hometown: Ashwick Groves, Conneticut
Talents/Skills:
Anyone that has ever had the pleasure of getting an invite to the Hamilton house for dinner knows that Mercedes Hamilton is one of the best cooks in town. That girl could make liver and onions appealing (if she even liked liver). Even better than just her own cooking, is her younger sister's baking skills... that perfectly rounds off any evening at the Hamilton's. Mercedes is also known for her easy way of making people feel better. Some might not consider a talent, but it sure is.
Quirks/Habits:
Mercedes tends to be on the quirkier side. She has small ticks and habits, but who doesn't? And if she were being completely honest, the quirkiness definitely runs in the family a bit. Totally uninhibited by the thought of embarrassment, Mercedes is always down to do things some might find weird or crazy. Hell, she'll try anything once! Even twice if you double dog dare her to.
Family History:
Anyone that knew the Hamilton's, knew them as a loving, caring, happy family. Not perfect. No family is perfect, but the Hamilton family was the closest to all-America, white picket fence happy anyone thought was possible. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton fell in love, married, and had two beautiful daughters. Smart, intelligent, funny, beautiful daughters to boot. They enjoyed reading together, watching movies (Mercedes got her love of horror movies from their mother), board games, music, camping, attending all of Ashwick's festivities (and they were a bounty), and basically anything and everything they could, they liked to do together. Needless to say, growing up Mercedes had a good home life and a fantastic childhood.
Unfortunately, her juvenile days were cut far too short. After a visit with their paternal aunt, the two girls had returned home to find their parents dead in their once loving, warm, beautifully restored Victorian home. The scene was like something out of a horror movie (not something Mercedes likes to think of, but has been know to be haunted by in dreams). During that period of time, Mercedes took on the role of being the 'woMAN' of the family, putting on a strong face. The problem was, she never dropped that strong exterior.
Two years after the death of their parents, their aunt, whom had been acting as legal guardian to the girls, decided to pass the reigns to the then eighteen year old Mercedes. It was something that came as a huge shock to the eldest Hamilton daughter, but she took on the duties without an outward complaint. At the age of eighteen, Mercedes found herself just about to graduate high school with a house to take care of, bills to pay, and a teenage sister that she now had full legal guardianship over thanks to their aunt's willingness to hand over their rights.
Mercedes took on all the responsibility in the household, never once complaining. Never once cracking. Never once showing just how highly stressed out and worried she was feeling on the outside. Six long years after their parents death, Mercedes is still the head of household, despite Caleigh being an adult. Some tend to think that Mercedes should push her younger sister to be more independent, more self reliant. Less dependent on the help of her older sister, but the truth is... Mercedes need Caleigh as much as Caleigh needs Mercedes. And she doesn't the mind the burden of growing up way too fast... not if it means Caleigh can enjoy what they both should have been enjoying: be a reckless bunch of drunk college girls making mistakes and consoling each other about it. (Not that that is really how Caleigh acts. In fact, Mercedes does have to give it to their parents... they raised two really good girls.)
Romantic History:
Before Mercedes was sixteen, she had a handful of boyfriends under her belt. Nothing serious ever really occurred. She'd go on small dates with a boy and they'd end up holding hands or making out, but then after a few months when their attention spans waned, they'd move along to the next catch from the sea.
After the tragic events of her mother and father's death, when she was merely sixteen, Mercedes refused to take any relationship with a male seriously. She had a date to every dance, yes, but out of what she felt was obligation to be accompanied. Sometimes the brunette would give into a good night kiss, though nothing more would come of the potential relationship. Some boys persisted in pursuing her, but (as high school boys do) they got bored and moved on to a more willing, eager specimen.
Out of high school, her indifference to the romantic chapters in her life were virtually nonexistence. The haunting shadow of her parents death have been an overcast cloud blocking out the sun's radiating romance. Watching a good number of her friends form adult relationships and further more talk about sex, has slightly intrigued Mercedes--though she's never actually gone out and just done it already to understand what's so fascinating about the damn act. It has, however, blossomed a little bit of curiosity in the feel of relationships.
Slowly the sun has started to peek through her dismal clouds and Mercedes is enjoying a bit of harmless flirting, but she doesn't go much further than that. In fact, the female hasn't even kissed someone since she was at least eighteen. There just hasn't been time or room to really think about it, but perhaps her more experienced cousin and equally (though potentially more experienced) younger sister can push her to be more willing to accept a date offer now and again.
Struggles:
Mercedes struggles with just about everything in her life, but she hides it well. She struggles with the lose of her parents (though she's become more accepting of the fact), she struggles to make sure Elsie is happen, she struggles to figure out what she really wants to do with her life and in what direction she wants to go with. She even struggles with the idea that vampires would ever inhabit a little town like Ashwick, though she's not opposed to the idea of vampires being real. Mercedes has struggles like everyone else... she's just way better at hiding them behind a smile than most.
Portrayal:
If you don't know... I hope the rock you live under you smothers you... I mean... what? -Helpfulness, helpfullness- It's Nina Dobrev, son!

Date: 2013-07-24 01:22 am (UTC)s reporting; she's not experiencing; she's not involved. Pretty sure I just butchered the semi-colon... That's just a new thought of mine, so I have to play around with it.
Other than that, Anita is friends with Jimmy, and she probably did research on Ashwick town history/news before she moved, so she might have the Hamilton's name in the back of her head... Idk throwing around ideas. She's pretty nice . I don't remember if I told you this or not, but the gist of her character is a "social justice Lois Lane from Poland"... if that gives you any jumping off points for ideas.

Date: 2013-07-28 10:47 pm (UTC)Occasionally, when he wasn't thinking too clearly, Jimmy would stray in his mind and almost think he was approaching home, wrap-around porch, squealing screen door...His vision of home remained what it had been, a Virginia farmhouse that had nigh miraculously survived the War Between the States, and his old family waiting: sister in her white linen dress dancing on the lawn, mother rocking in her chair, clutching his father's worn letters in one hand, and Barbara, standing on the stoop with a smile and an arm out-stretched towards him...But that was long ago and, when he approached the Hamilton house, one hand coming to rest on the gate, he would realize with a smile that home didn't quite mean what it once had.
It had been a long but not unpleasant day, but still he was always eager for the comfort Cedes provided: her warmth, her smile, her laugh. It seemed like it had been ages, but that was silly, he knew. It was only that, any time apart seemed too long to him. He'd dared to wonder, once or twice, if she felt the same, but always he reminded himself that she did: in the most friendly of senses.
Raising one hand to knock, he glanced around as he did, in case she was outside on such a pleasant day. "Cedes?"
